About NMBS Logistics

NMBS Logistics is an independent, high performing, international logistics group that is part of the SNCB group. Headquartered in Brussels, it is active in 12 countries. The group was created in 2008 by integrating all companies that were active in the SNCB freight division to bring strengths and complementary activities under one sound structure. On 1 February 2011, the company NMBS Logistics became operational as a rail operator and international group.

All entities of the group work on the same clear mission: to grow into a profitable, independent, efficient and international transport group that provides logistical total solutions and customer-oriented services to companies and large industrial groups (on the basis of sustainable modes like rail, inland shipping, but also road transport, terminals, warehousing, on-site operations, etc.). To that end, NMBS Logistics will endeavour continuously to improve quality, productivity and cost efficiency and to expand its international offer and network. The group’s commercial flagships are IFB for container transport and Xpedys for logistical solutions for conventional transport (bulk, steel and chemical products, automotive and consumer goods). NMBS Logistics is responsible for rail production in Belgium, and calls on reliable partners such as Cobra and Sibelit for international rail transport.

Project Scope

NMBS Logistics has selected Quintiq to deliver a planning solution that supports the full resource planning cycle, from long term planning to real-time execution management. The solution will integrate the planning and scheduling of NMBS’ line locomotives, shunting machines, drivers and ground operators. Long term planning is expected to be live late 2011, followed by real-time execution management in the beginning of 2012.
