Advanced Planning & Scheduling for optimization of stocks, delivery performance and throughput times
Allgemeine Gold- und Silberscheideanstalt AG (Allgemeine), one of the leading parting works in Europe, has decided to adopt an Advanced Planning & Scheduling solution by Quintiq. The new application suite will support Allgemeine in optimizing production flows and in doing so adapt to the growing requirements of its customers. With the implementation of Quintiq and its integration into the existing IT configuration, Allgemeine counts on reducing warehouse stocks by 30% in the medium term while maintaining or even improving its delivery performance, now at 95%, and shortening throughput times.

For more than a century, Allgemeine has been specializing in the recovery of precious metals and the manufacture of precious metal products. Materials containing gold, silver or platinum are processed in the gold and silver parting works in Pforzheim. The recovered fine metals are used in the production of semi-finished products for the manufacture of jewelry, decorative consumer goods, coins and industrial products. Processing these precious metals demands flexible and transparent planning of the various production flows. Several production areas dedicated to different operation types - make-to-order, make-to-stock, piece manufacturing, small-lot fabrication and series fabrication - must be linked to each other. Allgemeine used to carry out production planning and control on a primarily manual basis. The same holds for the coordination of its individual production areas and material procurement. The Quintiq solution will now support and optimize the planning and control of production flows. Every aspect of planning, including customer specifications, delivery dates and shifting bottlenecks, will be taken into account, as well as all manual planning decisions and their consequences.

Quintiq will enable Allgemeine to reduce stock levels by optimizing resource exploitation and improve delivery performance by shortening throughput times, ensuring stricter observance of delivery dates. The Quintiq Application Suite integrates all relevant planning information into a single system, avoiding repeated entry of the same order and creating transparency along the entire production chain. For improved communication between planning and production, the system also visualizes all manual planning decisions, allowing for optimized coordination between individual departments, e.g. the silver smeltery and target production. It also visualizes current stock levels, changes in production and disruptions caused by machine breakdowns or maintenance work.

"We selected Quintiq because it offers benefits in terms of optimizing our inventory levels and getting our high-quality products ready in good time for delivery. It strengthens our market position," says Dr. Tews, project manager for the implementation of Quintiq at AGoSi Allgemeine. "Quintiq technology can be adapted flexibly to our requirements and to our complex production flows in precious metal processing."

"At Allgemeine, Quintiq has the status of a strategic product," explains Dr. Beuers, Allgemeine's CEO. "A significant reason for this is the solution's proven performance and flexibility in practice."

"We are delighted that Allgemeine has joined our circle of clients. Our software enables companies to overcome optimization problems, visualize complex processes and increase efficiency of inventory management and production," says Arjen Heeres, COO and co-founder of Quintiq. "The decision to go for Quintiq confirms our expertise in the field of Advanced Planning & Scheduling solutions in the precious metal industry."
