Leading Chinese Aluminum Company Chalco Ruimin Selects Quintiq to Improve Scheduling and Planning in Two Facilities

November 10, 2008 | 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands
Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions and Chalco Ruimin, a major aluminum manufacturer, today announced that Chalco Ruimin has chosen Quintiq to provide two APS solutions, the Quintiq Company Planner and the Quintiq Metal Scheduler. Chalco Ruimin identified the Quintiq solutions as an ideal way to optimize their production capabilities and help them meet the planning challenges of a fast-growing business.

Chalco Ruimin is a subsidiary of Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO), a Fortune 500 company and an investment management and holding company, the nation's largest aluminum and alumina producer. A leading manufacturer of high-end fabricated aluminum, Chalco Ruimin employs equipment imported from the USA and Europe to produce 120,000 tons per year mainly of aluminum semi-products widely used in printing, packaging, construction, electronic and consumer applications. With their strong technical research and development abilities, their products have been awarded several province-level prizes by the Chinese government. Chalco Ruimin products are exported worldwide with an ever-growing customer demand.

APS Vital to Support Growth
Recognizing the growth potential in the high-end aluminum market, Chalco Ruimin developed an ambitious growth plan that includes the opening of new facilities and new high-tech product portfolio. They hope to maintain their leading position in innovative technology and effective management. Chalco Ruimin realized that to reach their desired growth goal that they needed an APS solution to support them to increase efficiency and collaborate between their two facilities.

With many options for APS solutions, Chalco Ruimin sought a provider that had comprehensive knowledge both in the aluminum industry and in the Chinese business culture. The supplier should support Chalco Ruimin to reduce inventory, shorten lead times, increase on-time delivery rates, and increase output without additional resource to achieve their business goal. Secondly, the solution supplier should provide a flexible system that can use Unicode for the software interface. Finally, the system has to be easy for the end user to learn and use.

Until now, Chalco Ruimin has been planning manually using a customized planning solution based on an ERP system. The ERP system lacked the transparency that a large, expanding organization needs. Moreover, the system did not have the scheduling capabilities to fully fulfill the monthly, weekly and daily plan requirements. Chalco Ruimin chose the Quintiq Company Planner to provide them with tactical planning and company-wide transparency to help manage, in real time, the interactions between capacities, raw materials and sales. They also purchased the Quintiq Metal Scheduler to generate optimized schedules and order sequencing.

"One of the deciding factors in choosing Quintiq solutions is because of Quintiq's flexibility in functionality and integration to address current and unforeseen personalized local requirements. The solutions will grow with us as we expand our business with the addition of a second manufacturing facility and in the future," explained Mr. Zhouchenyun, IT Director of Chalco Ruimin.

The implementation of both the Company Planner and the Scheduler is scheduled to go live in March 2009 in the current facility. An additional plant that is currently in the final stages of construction will join the implementation in May 2009.

"After SAPA Shanghai successfully improved their efficiency with the support of Quintiq APS solutions, we are proud to see that another well-known Chinese company has selected Quintiq to be their long-term strategic partner to help them to improve their planning and scheduling performance," commented Charles Hu, Business Unit Director, Quintiq China. "Quintiq's successful entrance into the Chinese aluminum industry market is largely due to Quintiq's unique combination of international expertise and local resources which can provide Chinese companies with the advanced technology and industry experience they are looking for."
