Solution modeled and implemented by Ab Ovo with Quintiq software
Leading short sea operator United European Car Carriers (UECC) has gone live with an
innovative planning and optimization solution for its Europe-wide operations. The Quintiq software was successfully implemented by Ab Ovo in less than one year.
Every year UECC transports more than a million cars and high and heavy units. Due to the economic developments, UECC is faced with volatile capacity demands resulting in a more dynamic and complex planning and scheduling process. With the introduction of the Quintiq software, UECC is fully equipped to face this new market situation. Quintiq supports UECC with optimal and transparent planning of capacity taking cost, volumes, schedule reliability and
terminal port planning into consideration.
Arne Hamre, IT Director at UECC says: “The Quintiq software combined with the Ab Ovo industry knowledge enables us now to synchronize and align the communication and planning between Fleet Management, Customer Services and the Trades. This supports our employees continuously in making optimal decisions, based on accurate information and suggestions from the system.”
With Quintiq the planners are advised about the most optimal vessel schedule and utilization. This new solution allows planners to run varied capacity scenarios which enable them to understand the impact of specific cargo composition and vessel allocation changes better. Because of the detailed information on the capacity requirements, the exact vessel size can be determined for each line/trade to optimize costs while respecting customer requirements on capacity and transit times.
Planning constraints such as capacity allocation, regulations, terminal shifts and service level agreements are automatically taken into account. Also advice about using own or chartered vessels is part of the solution. Quintiq offers continuous performance analysis on schedules, utilization and costs. This makes it possible to see the impact on costs and quality of a change in port rotation or a vessel swap. The system will list the consequences in the subsequent port(s) as well.
Implementation specialist Ab Ovo and Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) software provider Quintiq share a long track record in developing and implementing APS solutions in a wide variety of market segments. With the successful implementation at UECC they proved once again to be leaders in their specific field. Ronald van Doorn, director at Ab Ovo says: “we are very proud that we were able to help UECC in facing their future challenges”.
