Novelis Europe goes live with Quintiq Company Planner

June 17, 2009 | 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands
Quintiq, a leading provider of advanced planning and scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced the go-live of the Quintiq Company Planner at Novelis, global leader in aluminium rolled products and aluminium can recycling. The project includes three major Novelis Plants in Europe, which influence a significant part of the output in the European Operations of Novelis across five Supply Chains (Can, Automotive, Painted, Specialties, Litho & Foilstock ). The solution went live within 12 months.

As early adopter of advanced planning and scheduling, Novelis has been working with Quintiq for many years to improve efficiency and enhance performance. The latest Company Planner implementation at Novelis Europe includes the sites in Nachterstedt, Norf and Göttingen.

Novelis Europe selected the Quintiq solution because of its ability to handle the complexity of the supply chains. Quintiq is able to take into account all of the constraints involved in the manufacturing of aluminum rolled products. The aim of the Company Planner implementation is to significantly improve the OTIF (on time in full), supply chain visibility, inventory management and reach a planning by supply chain instead of a plant-based planning. The Company Planner enables Novelis to optimally plan its production, linking into the logistics operations, opening the way to improved customer service, reduced capital requirements and scheduling flexibility.

Procyon Mukherjee, V.P. Supply Chain Process Novelis Europe said: "It is a step towards the realization of aspirations to set industry standards in Rolled Products supply chains in terms of delivery performance. The goal is to also simultaneously improve inventory-turns through a closed loop decision support system designed by the Quintiq Company Planner. The business and organizational processes are being aligned to solve daily puzzles in order to "deliver efficiently, every time", a credo that underlines the objectives that we have set out for the Supply Chain teams."

Arthur Torsy, Business Unit Director Metals & Manufacturing at Quintiq, commented: "We are very pleased that Novelis chose the Quintiq Company Planner for this Multi-Site Supply Chain project. With this project we have now implemented Quintiq more than 10 times at Novelis. Novelis projects are always challenging due to the production volume, expanse of their product portfolio and the complexity of their supply chain. However, it is just these challenges that make working with Novelis satisfying as they bring out the best in our planning capabilities."
