Rhenus Logistics and Quintiq Develop the First Integrated Planning System

June 01, 2012 | 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

The aim of the new Rhenus Network Planner is the complete modeling of the Rhenus Group's freight network. This is an innovation in the logistics business. The Rhenus Network Planner will be used for the fast and comprehensive analysis of shipment flows, taking into consideration the specific constraints of less-than-truckload (LTL) traffic. The implementation of this project is based on Quintiq's Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) software. The Quintiq solution provides an exact fit for Rhenus' business processes by using the flexible modeling capabilities of Quintiq's standardized base modules.

What-if scenarios and optimized transport plans

With the new Network Planner, Rhenus Logistics will have the ability to evaluate the utilization of transport routes between various locations within seconds, but will also have the ability to dynamically change and communicate plans in real-time. The benefits are enormous: on several planning levels Rhenus Logistics will be able to design its network and optimize its capacities. Planners will have the opportunity to run various what-if scenarios in real time and can choose from the best auto-generated planning proposals. This will allow continuous cost and quality optimization of all national and international hubs. Also, dynamic changes and bottlenecks in the current plan can now easily be evaluated and solved across all depots.
