ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P. selects Quintiq to optimize its planning and production processes

Quintiq, a global leader in supply chain planning and optimization (SCP&O), announced today that ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P. (AMEM) selected the Quintiq software platform to optimize its berth planning and scheduling processes.

ArcelorMittal Mining Canada G.P. is one of Canada's leading suppliers of iron ore to steel markets around the world. It is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, with facilities in the Labrador Trough and on the North Shore, and sales offices in Europe.

On behalf of Mining Canada, ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada G.P. managed the planning and scheduling of its berths at Port Cartier Industrial Complex using spreadsheets. When they were tasked with increasing throughput at Port Cartier Industrial Complex, they realized that they needed to automate their systems in order to minimize costs and increase throughput.

The Quintiq solution, which will be implemented at Port Cartier Industrial Complex, is set to address the logistical challenges of the mining company. It will optimize the vessel berthing and loading processes through the management of their port and loading assets. The solution will allow them to properly manage physical port and specific vessel constraints in order to lower demurrage and increase throughput. Additionally, they will be able to accommodate last-minute changes in demand and thus, reduce the opportunity cost of changes in vessel ETAs.
