Russian steelmaker Severstal expands its use of the Quintiq platform

July 3, 2015 | ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands

Quintiq, a global leader in supply chain planning and optimization (SCP&O), announced today that Russian steelmaker Severstal has expanded the use of the Quintiq software to two additional locations to increase yield, improve delivery performance and reduce inventory costs.

Severstal, a leading Russian manufacturer of steel products, needed a unifying scheduling platform for its sites across Russia to reduce inventory costs. The company also wanted to speed up its lead times, reduce work-in-progress inventory and improve delivery performance to meet customer demand.

The project to implement Quintiq software will start at two Severstal locations: at a mini mill in Balakovo, and at a cold rolling mill in Cherepovets. The solution will synchronize workflows at the production sites, allowing them to improve productivity by increasing overall yield and reducing inventory stock. Once implemented, the solution will generate short-term KPI-driven schedules for each site.

Severstal has been using the Quintiq software to schedule its steelmaking plant in Cherepovets since 2013. The progress achieved so far at its casting shop and hot rolling mill has played a role in Severstal’s decision to expand the use of Quintiq software to the two new locations.

“We are very pleased with the Quintiq software, its flexibility and ability to fit to our requirements. Our project has progressed tremendously and we are moving steadily towards our goals,” said Yuri Shekhovtsov, Chief Information Officer at Severstal.

“Expanding our solution following our initial implementation is affirmation of our software’s ability to deliver such complicated projects,” said Francois Eijgelshoven, Vice President EMEA at Quintiq. “Drawing on our experience in the metals and mining industry, we have developed a solution that will help Severstal optimize scheduling for its sites across Russia, thus bringing cost and efficiency benefits to the overall business and continuing to meet customer demand.”
