Flinter selects Quintiq and The Logic Factory to facilitate double digit capacity growth

Quintiq, a leading provider of Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solutions, today announced that Flinter, the fifth largest maritime shipping company in the Netherlands, has chosen Quintiq and implementation partner The Logic Factory to provide an advanced planning and optimization solution for its global crew and future voyage planning.

Flinter is one of the leading cargo-ship operators in the Netherlands. It owns about two third of their current 45 vessels and the other vessels are commercially-, technically-, and/or nautically managed by Flinter. Flinter also provides maritime services to captain-owners and to private shipping companies: supervision of new building projects, nautical- and technical management, crewing, financing, and brokering purchases and sales. Futhermore, Flinter is also a broker between supply (industries) and demand (shipping companies). For this, they rely on the Flinter fleet or - if better suited to meet demand - other ships in their extensive network.
Finding the right balance between planning the right vessel, the right crew and finding the right cargo to optimize profit is a complex task Flinter needs to manage on a daily base.

In a first phase The Logic Factory will build a 100% fit solution for Flinter based on standard technology of Quintiq to plan nautical, technical and crew management.
Crew planning is a complex puzzle since you need to plan the right people at the right time respecting different regulations, certifications and skills, availability and leave balance, daily planning disturbances of vessels and therefore an intelligent system is necessary to support the crew planner to make cost optimal decisions.
The Quintiq solution will provide Flinter with complete transparency throughout its network-wide planning chain and give planners more control so they can focus on tuning the plan and not any longer in making the plan.

The Logic Factory, with who we aim to have a long term relationship, will carry out the Quintiq implementation as well as the integration with our backbone IT-system, which will also be provided by them.”

Additionally, with the Quintiq solution, Flinter could be able in the future to optimize voyage management in combination with cargo planning. Flinter also operates on the spot market and therefore it is crucial to match best cargo with current vessel planning to optimize cargo profit and minimize ballast days and bunker costs.
Development began in mid-June 2008 by Quintiq implementation partner The Logic Factory and solution will go live in Q4.
