Capgemini and Quintiq introduce Hospital Planning Solution

New solution improves patient logistics in hospitals

’s-Hertogenbosch/Utrecht, February 1, 2005 - Consultancy organization Capgemini and software supplier Quintiq introduce the Hospital Planning Solution (HPS), enabling drastic improvements in hospital capacity planning and patient logistics.

The Hospital Planning Solution focuses on three interrelated hospital planning layers that can be implemented in phases. The first is capacity planning, which translates production targets into an optimum mix of production resources. The second layer is patient planning, which reserves provisional capacity for patients. The third layer is operational planning, which translates the overall planning for individual patients into bookings in the various scheduling systems, including the operating theatre, outpatient clinic, admissions and radiology. HPS cannot be compared with existing rostering systems, and indeed its purpose is to provide these systems with correct input.

Peter Teijgeman of Capgemini says that the Hospital Planning Solution is an answer to the complex issue of patient logistics. “While they are in hospital, patients make use of a multitude of services, distributed across departments all around the hospital. Doctors and nurses work within many different care processes. It is all but impossible to oversee the whole picture with existing scheduling systems, so effective coordination is hard to achieve. Quintiq's Hospital Planning Solution gives a hospital an intelligent, clear system that saves both personnel and patients a great deal of time while avoiding irritation, resulting in increased productivity.”
