Quintiq records strong growth in metal sector in 2006

Software vendor Quintiq has realized significant growth in 2006 in the metal sector.

's-Hertogenbosch, January 15th, 2007 – Software vendor Quintiq has realized significant growth in 2006 in the metal sector. The provider of advanced planning software signed new customers in different parts of the world. Quintiq now has contracts with the five largest manufacturers of aluminum and four of the five largest copper manufacturers. Quintiq also signed a worldwide agreement in 2006 with the metal solution provider Ruukki.

The Quintiq planning software addresses the issues of metal manufacturers who want to keep (temporary) stock as small as possible and realize an optimal use of their capacity. The Quintiq software not only provides real-time scheduling but also tactical and strategic planning.

With the Quintiq solution, metal companies can shorten lead times, guarantee consistent delivery dates, improve productivity, and reduce stock through a more efficient use of resources.

The solution takes into account changes in production due to unplanned downtime or scheduled maintenance. It also provides real-time reporting and analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). In addition, the Quintiq solution enables a customer to save time in adjusting the planning and to use modeled what if-scenarios.

Quintiq has already signed thirteen aluminum manufacturers as customers, including Alcan, Corus, Alcoa, Novelis, Hydro, Hulett and most recently Elval. Five customers, including Luvata, Prymetall and Wieland, produce copper. A company-wide agreement has been signed with the Finnish company Ruukki for 23 European production sites. In addition, the German silver manufacturer Allgemeine Gold- und Silberschmiedeanstalt uses the Quintiq software.

In early 2006, analyst firm Gartner placed Quintiq in its Magic Quadrant in the report ‘Magic Quadrant for Supply Chain Planning in Process Manufacturing Industries, 1H06’. In the Magic Quadrant Gartner evaluates vendors on their vision and execution, using criteria such as product capabilities, breadth and depth and customer opinions. Quintiq’s placement in the quadrant is broadly regarded as recognition of the position it has developed.

“Thanks to our specific expertise in the metal sector we have become worldwide market leader in the planning and scheduling of rolling aluminum, where we have reached a market share of 30 percent”, says Victor Allis, Quintiq CEO. “We keep working on the further development of our industry-specific planning solution, which enables metal companies and others to significantly improve their performance.”
