David Walker, TNT Express

Biography: David Walker, TNT Express, Senior Business Systems Manager

In 1992 I graduated with an Hons degree in Computing Science from Staffordshire University.  I worked for three and a half years at a small software house developing software for the packaging industry.

In April 1996, I joined TNT and have worked here for the last eleven and a half years.

Joining TNT as an Analyst Programmer, I worked my way up through the positions of Senior Analyst Programmer, Principal Analyst Programmer, Project Leader and Project Manager within the development department.  My responsibilities were mainly focused around the Operational systems.

In 2003, I joined the Business Systems department as an Account Manager, responsible for the Warehouse applications as part of the operations area.  Since then, I have worked my way up to Senior Business Systems Manager with responsibility for all Operational systems including Office, Warehouse and PUD (Pickup and Delivery).  My area of responsibility covers related functional areas like, Customs, Security, Dangerous Goods, Imaging and general Ops performance reporting.

In conjunction with my day to day ICS role, I have also been project managing the Operations Re-engineering team since September 2004.  The operations re-engineering team was established with a representative from each of TNT's Business Units, who would be responsible for defining the process and system requirements for any of the operational initiatives.

We are currently in the middle of a huge business driven initiative, which is striving to standardise on all the processes and systems worldwide.  Following the completion of the operations blueprint, which details the common processes that will be adopted, it is my teams responsibility to map out the system requirements from the agreed processes, and to create the overall operational system architecture to support the business moving forwards.
