Van Uden Logistics implements planning solution by Quintiq

August 23, 2004 | 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands
Van Uden Logistics, based in Haaften, has called in software specialist Quintiq to implement an application that will improve Van Uden's management of transport planning processes. The company will implement Quintiq's solution on behalf of the five distribution centres Van Uden operates in the Netherlands. Van Uden Logistics specialises in warehousing, distribution and transport of food, wines and spirits.

In cooperation with Quintiq the planning specialists at Van Uden will create a solution that seamlessly fits the company's work process. The fact that Van Uden operates five warehouses in the Netherlands which also act as service centres is a crucial factor in this development. "One of the deciding factors that led us to choose Quintiq was the fact that Quintiq's technology is well able to handle our multi-warehousing situation.", says Berno Bossenbroek of Van Uden Logistics. "In addition, it's the flexibility of the software that enables us to develop a solution that meets all our specific requirements. Based on what we've seen in reference companies that have used Quintiq solutions to thoroughly streamline their transport planning we expect to achieve a higher level of control over our own planning process."

Together, Quintiq and Van Uden will develop a real-time multi-user planning system which gives each planner a complete overview of all relevant processes. The system calculates the effectiveness and consequences of every planning action. Each person involved in the planning process is constantly informed of those consequences. In addition, the costs, advantages, distances and load distribution per planning modification are directly visible to each planner. A central planning system will optimize and adjust the handling of cargo. Key element in adjusting the planning is the company's objective to use the five Dutch warehouses as effectively as possible.

Optimization goals are defined in cooperation with Van Uden and subsequently implemented based on relevant algorithms.
