RTD chooses Quintiq for multi-resource planning

Capgemini selected as implementation partner
RTD (Röntgen Technische Dienst) in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, has chosen Quintiq planning software for its multi-resource planning. RTD will use the Quintiq solution to support its operational activities worldwide. RTD has hired IT services provider Capgemini for the software implementation.

From its eleven regional offices in the Netherlands, RTD is engaged in non-destructive testing (NDT). The company performs quality, safety and reliability inspection services for technical systems. Apart from the eleven offices in the Netherlands, the company (founded in 1937) now has branches in Germany, Belgium, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Canada, the United States, Australia and Nigeria. RTD service areas are primarily in the offshore and onshore oil, gas and petrochemical industry, the chemical industry, power generation (including nuclear power stations), pipelines and construction.

Up to now, the Rotterdam-based company has for the most part been planning its staff and resources manually, using Excel spreadsheets. In recent years, this approach proved to be increasingly incapable of providing the flexibility the market demands and unsuited to RTD growth plans. After an extensive orientation on options for software-based planning support, RTD selected Quintiq. The reasons behind this choice were the flexibility and adaptability of the software, underscored by the package demo developed by Capgemini.

After the implementation of Quintiq, RTD will be able to get the most out of the planning of its Dutch employees, permanent employees on international projects and a large group of external employees and subcontractors. The new planning system using Quintiq keeps track of a number of factors, such as employee certification, specific client needs, required material, governmental regulations/legislation on the use radiation technology and working hours regulations. In addition, RTD will be better able to anticipate disruptions in the planning caused by unforeseen events.

The new system will also ultimately offer the capacity to work based on medium and long-term tactical planning.

The Quintiq system is expected to be operational in early 2006. Capgemini, which is handling the implementation, is also taking care of linking the system to a new RTD ERP system, which will also go live in early 2006.
