First Chinese Customer for Quintiq
Quintiq has announced that Sapa Heat Transfer (Shanghai) Ltd. has signed a license and consultancy agreement to implement the Quintiq Company Planner in its facility in China. The planning solution will support the company in its efforts to optimize its production processes and projected yearly output growth of 20%. Currently Sapa's planning processes are manually implemented. The company has undertaken a search for an intelligent and professional software solution to maintain its current production level while setting high growth goals. Its objectives for the Quintiq Company Planner solution include achieving transparency of planning quality, planning process improvement, planning of all operations in one system, traceability and bottleneck identification.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Sapa AB in Sweden, Sapa Heat Transfer Shanghai is (together with their sister company in Sweden) the only rolling mill in the world that works exclusively with rolled aluminum for brazed heat exchangers. In 2006, they celebrate the 10 th anniversary of their company. Over the past two years, they have completed an extensive investment programme that has allowed them to boost production to an annual rate of 45,000 MT (metric tons).

Today metal companies are heavily focused on managing multiple Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). They need to produce the highest possible throughput with the lowest possible inventory while maintaining or increasing the best possible quality and delivery performance. Quintiq's solution looks ahead in the supply chain in order to manage material and capacity constraints, which enables dynamic planning and delivery-date quoting.

The Quintiq Company Planner maps each planning action including specifications, delivery due dates, constraints and shifting bottlenecks, as well as planners' decisions and their consequences. With the Quintiq solution it will be possible to increase productivity and reduce inventories by optimizing resource utilization, improve the delivery performance by reducing lead times and guarantee delivery dates. The solution takes changes in production, e.g., shutdowns and maintenance work, into account and allows real-time reporting and analysis of KPIs. In addition, it saves time in developing or adapting plans and offers the modelling of "what if?" scenarios.

"Our company aims to excel in the processes and production essential to our fast-growing industry. After careful analysis of the options, we chose Quintiq because of its offering, its excellent reputation and compelling experience in the aluminium industry," explained Jim Huang, responsible for the implementation within S apa Heat Transfer Shanghai. "In addition, its technology can be adapted flexibly to our requirements."

Victor Allis, CEO of Quintiq, says: "Sapa's decision to implement Quintiq confirms our expertise in Advanced Planning & Scheduling solutions for the aluminium industry. We are delighted to announce that Sapa is our first customer in China."
